The story
The KA-9100 was Kenwood’s “DC Stereo Integrated Amplifier” of the late 1970s, positioned above the KA-8100. It is rated at 90 watts per channel into 8 Ω, 20 Hz–20 kHz, at 0.03% THD. Kenwood also quoted 95 W per channel at 1 kHz, 110 W into 4 Ω, and frequency response extending down to DC. Kenwood put most of its engineering effort into the power supply. There are three separate supplies, one for each channel plus one for the preamplifier, which extends the dual-supply approach of the KR-x600 receivers. The power amp is DC-coupled with no input capacitors. Other features include two phono inputs, two power meters with a compressed log scale, Baxandall tone controls, subsonic and high filters, two-deck tape dubbing, and pre/main connections so the sections can be used separately. It weighs about 37 lb. It is a strong choice for a separates system, built to a higher standard than most mid-priced integrated amplifiers of its time.
